Baked Apple Chips

Ingredients

  • 3-4 Medium Apples
  • Cinnamon
  • Parchment Paper

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 225 degrees.
  2. Remove apple core and thinly slice each apple.
  3. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper. Place apple slices on top in one layer.
  4. Sprinkle with desired amount of cinnamon.
  5. Bake for two hours. At the end of the first hour flip apples so they bake evenly.
  6. Remove from pans and let them cool on a wire rack to crisp.

I’m always on the lookout for delicious after school snacks. I like to keep them healthy whenever possible and a bit on the lighter side since dinner isn’t far off. I’ve purchased bags of apple chips in the past and they never last long in our house. That’s why I thought I’d try my hand at making them at home.

This recipe was so easy that I can’t wait to try it again. The most labor intensive part was slicing the apples thinly. I don’t have a mandolin so it took a bit of time to get each slice just right. I’ve since added a mandolin to my wish list so the next time I make these the prep should go much faster.

I baked the apples while Kora & Logan were at school. I pulled them out of the oven just as I headed off to pick them up at the end of the day. While they were baking I thought they smelled wonderful and it wasn’t just me. As soon as Kora walked in the door she asked, “What’s that wonderful smell?”

When I told her it was the apples she was excited to try them. The apples turned out just as good as if we bought them in a bag. I like that they are a healthy snack and perfect after school treat and I loved the apple cinnamon smell wafted through the house while they cooked. This recipe is a keeper and I’m looking forward to making these baked apple chips again soon.

What about you? What are some of your favorite afternoon snacks?
