Fall 2: Confirmation & Everything We Know (2024)

After the survival thriller became a global hit across Netflix in 2023, Lionsgate has announced that Fall 2 is in the works. Fall stars Grace Caroline Currey (Shazam) and Virginia Gardner (Marvel's Runaways, Halloween) as best friends Shiloh and Becky, who are stranded on a 2,000 ft tall radio pole and have to find unconventional ways down. Despite its simple premise, Fall excelled because it managed to be a terrifying thrill ride that never slowed down.

Fall was something of a sleeper hit in theaters and it accrued $21 million at the box office against a meager $3 million budget (via Box Office Mojo). Fall's true claim to fame came when it was released on streaming, and the underrated thriller found a huge international audience on Netflix. Naturally, this inspired speculation about a potential sequel, and it has already been confirmed that not one but two Fall sequels are in the works.

Fall 2 Finds New Directors

Months after it was announced that the sequel was in the works, the latest news confirms that Fall 2 has found new directors. According to Variety, Fall 2 will now be directed by the Spierig Brothers, the duo behind the Saw sequel Jigsaw and the Helen Mirren-led thriller Winchester. Original writer/director Scott Mann is staying on as a producer and writer, and there has been no reason given for the changing of the guard behind the camera. No cast members have been revealed yet, and ​​​​​​the sequel is slated to begin filming in June 2024.

Filming On Fall 2 Starts In 2024

Fall 2 is confirmed, with the sequel first teased in early 2023 before getting the official green light from Lionsgate in October of the same year. The Fall sequel is in part thanks to the success producers Mark Lane and James Harris have had within the survival genre. Even before Fall, the duo produced 47 Meters Down which starred Mandy Moore and Sophie Nélisse as two sisters stranded in an underwater diving cage. Though details are still unknown, the sequel has a good chance of repeating its predecessor's success.

What Is The Fall Sequel About?

There haven't been many story details revealed yet, but there are several reasons why Fall 2 shouldn't be a direct sequel. Most importantly, most of Fall's plot and character motivations were resolved in the first film itself. Becky survives in the end and finally recovers from the death of her husband Dan, who had earlier died in a mountain-climbing incident. Further, the B67 tower cannot offer any more challenging possibilities for any of the characters and would not be a logical place for the sequel to take place.

However, since Fall 2 will likely build upon the terror of its predecessor, the sequel will probably involve new characters trapped in a terrifying and vertigo-inducing situation. There are plenty of tall places where the heroes could find themselves, but it will be difficult to top the shear terror of the radio tower. Becky could theoretically return in the sequel, even if it is to simply connect the original film to Fall 2's continuity.
