I believe its ok depending on your situation. Such as military transfers or a company thats not doing good and dragging you down with them. Today's economy is hard to tell what is going to happen. Nobody's job is safe any more.

No, jumping from job to job is not good, jobs want to see commitment, they don't want to pay for training and the employee quits shortly after training

A young worker needs to show longevity and dependability as opposed to going from job to job. I believe after 40 this changes especially with in the same company

Honestly, it really just depends on your own career path. At one point I worked at HD and I loved it. However, I went to college and achieved two degrees. Does it mean that I didn't like working at HD? No, it just means I had better opportunities else where. Anyways, rule of thumb is 2 years but when your young in your career, you're more likely to move around. Most employers expect that because you're trying to find your niche.

no, you get hired you should make the commitment to stay at least a year. Training new employees is expensive.

That is I'm NOT " old ", that was a typo... just older than I was 10 years ago when I worked for JCP, I left to finish my schooling, and start my college degree. I wanted to return to that company the opportunity never presented it'self. I couldn't move forward in the company without my schooling being finished, I wasn't able to change my schedule and still complete my schooling. The only choice at the time was to leave the company. Which I did, since I have had a difficult time finding a great place to work and a FT position. However, going to work at The Home Depot, working PT as a cashier just maybe the company where I can succeed in growing with, achieving my goals.

Sometimes it takes a few jobs to get one where you really fit into. In addition, job change isn't always your fault. Being laid off, companies close that particular office in the city you live in, or other situations occur. My husband and I have experienced both scenarios. I just started at The Home Depot as a PT cashier. This is a good company to work for and I plan on staying there as long as I possibly can, possibly until retirement, should that work out for me. I am in a corporation now that I can still grow with even though I'm old. I agree that income choices have a lot to do with whether an individual should stay at a company or leave for a better paying job,

People staying at the job longer is the reason why companies don't have to raise employees pay. Everyone's so afraid to leave the companies figure they have the employee by the short and curlies, and they give small raises or no raises.

I think that it is okay to change if the position provides more area for growth and professional skills/development or a promotion. You need to be able to explain the job change if asked about it in an interview.
